Meet Al Tuttle, The Beekeeper at Bear’s Mill on Saturday, July 28th from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Al started beekeeping 22 years ago, thanks to the help from Charlie Fisher, a Vandalia beekeeper. When his children were at home, they were going thru about a gallon of honey a month. Having grown up on a farm, Al figured that beekeeping was an agricultural operation and wanted to give it a try.
He started with one hive (colony), and how has 110, which are located at Aullwood, Monnin Farms, Fulton Farms, Carriage Hill, Cox Arboretum, and a few other locations. Al also sells honey at most of the above locations plus area health food stores under the name of Eagle Ridge Apiaries.
Al has served as director and treasurer of the Ohio State Beekeepers Association, president and secretary-treasurer of the Miami Valley Beekeepers Association, is a former member of the National Honey Board Nominating Committee, and is a Certified Ohio Beekeeper.
Come out to the Mill on Saturday to watch his honeybees in the observation hive and to hear Al share the health benefits from the hive. His presentation will start at 10:00 and run till noon with a break for lunch from noon to 1:00. He will then repeat the sequence of topics from 1:00 till 4:00. All-in-a-Cart Catering will be on-site at Bear’s Mill offering brats, hotdogs, chips, cookies, soda and waters for purchase as a lunch option. Call 937-548-5112 for more details.
